Freehold House Development Project

Church Manse Refurbishment in a Beautiful Conservation Area

For our first development project in Scotland we chose to acquire a Church Manse in the the Crown Conservation Area in Inverness, Scotland. In general the housing in this area date back to the Victorian and Edwardian era and the Manse itself is filled with all the characteristics you’d expect from a building from this period. Handcrafted timber stair balustrade, High ceilings, hardwood skirting, beautiful cornicing and stunning glazing (stained glass, and huge pitched roof-light) meant we had an excellent foundation to work with.

With 260m2 of floor space to refurbish, the main areas of work were to remediate the root causes of all the dampness throughout the property, and modernise the floor-plan with an open plan kitchen and breakfast room on the ground floor, and splitting 1 of the bathroom’s into 2 en-suites on the first floor. Alongside these major changes a planning submission to erect a new front fence (alongside erecting it), reflooring and repainting will all be required to complete this transformation.
